The Crowd

The Crowd

Meadow Stoltman

The bell rings, chairs scrape, students mumble, and everyone makes their way to the hallway. No one disrupts routine, too scared to be the cause of change. So you keep with the flow of hallways, you try your best not to upset others. You do this everyday, five times a week, with no complaints. Someone ahead of you looks around though, and you understand the want on their faces. The want to cause a disruption, to make a stand. And no matter what you do, your actions speak loudly. You either join them, attempt to stop them, or simply do nothing. So you choose to join them, to stop the flow. It gets the attention of others, it starts to cause an uproar. It causes others to make the same choice you did. But joining the ones who just caused such a dissaray seems to be the least tempting option at this point. So most won’t join you. Some will stand up against you, and most will stand in the background and watch. It’s hard to not get discouraged when this is the reality. But someone has to stand against the crowd every once in a while, or we wouldn’t be where we are today. To continue to see progress, sometimes stopping the flow of the hallway is needed. It’s intimidating, yes. But someone has to. Why not it be you. Don’t be afraid to go against the crowd.
