COLUMBIA, KY — A 17-year-old girl died after a two-vehicle collision Friday morning on Kentucky Highway 206 in Columbia, Kentucky State Police said. The crash happened in Adair County and involved a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox and a concrete truck traveling in the opposite direction. Troopers said the teen was driving west when her vehicle crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane. The vehicles then collided head-on.
Crash Details
According to a Kentucky State Police release, Post 15 was contacted by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office after the injury collision. Officials said the concrete truck was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Columbia. The truck was traveling east on the highway at the time of the impact. The teen was the only person in the SUV, according to the report.
Teen Dies At Hospital
The 17-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital after the wreck, but police said she later died from her injuries. The Adair County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead. Authorities did not immediately release her name because she was a juvenile. The driver of the concrete truck was not hurt in the crash, state police said.
Investigation Continues
The collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police. No additional details about what caused the vehicle to cross the center line were included in the initial report. Officials have not said whether charges are being considered. The crash occurred on a busy roadway in Columbia, a city in south-central Kentucky, and involved passenger and commercial vehicles.
