EAST ST. LOUIS, IL — A 15-year-old was taken into custody Monday after authorities found a body in a roadway in East St. Louis, according to Illinois State Police. Investigators have not identified the victim or said how the person died. The arrest came after officers began looking into the death scene in the southwestern Illinois city. State police have not said whether the teenager is considered the main suspect in the case.
What neighbors reported
People in the area told investigators they saw the teen going door to door while dressed in a clown costume. They said he was also looking into windows and carrying a large knife. Those accounts helped draw attention to the teenager before the body was discovered. Authorities have not said whether the reported sightings are directly linked to the death investigation, and no additional details about the witness statements have been released.
Ring camera footage
Police also reviewed Ring doorbell video recorded less than an hour before the body was found. The footage showed an individual approaching a home, looking into the camera and saying, “I have a gift for you.” Officials did not say whether the person in the video was the same teenager taken into custody. The clip adds another piece of evidence to a case that remains under active investigation.
