KANSAS CITY, MO — Authorities arrested a man Monday after he was suspected of stealing items from a storage facility in Miami County, Kansas, and then leading police on a high-speed chase across the state line into Missouri. The pursuit began after a Miami County deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle near 223rd Street and Ridgeview Road and tried to stop it, according to the sheriff’s department. The driver fled instead, setting off a chase that moved through several communities. Law enforcement agencies in Kansas and Missouri worked together during the incident.
How the pursuit unfolded
Deputies said the pickup truck reached nearly 90 mph at times as it moved along highways, rural roads and residential streets in Johnson County, Kansas. The vehicle then crossed into Missouri, where the driver continued through neighborhoods in Jackson and Cass counties. The chase stretched across multiple jurisdictions and required coordination between officers on both sides of the state line. Authorities said the pursuit ended in the Creekmoor neighborhood of Raymore, Missouri, where the suspect stopped.
Search after the stop
Once the vehicle stopped, officers launched a broad search for the suspect. The effort included K-9 units from the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and a helicopter from Kansas City police. Officials said the search continued until the man was taken into custody Monday night. The coordinated response reflected the scale of the pursuit and the number of agencies involved in tracking him down.
Separate from shooting suspect
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the man arrested in the chase is not Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, who is suspected in a series of shootings last week. That clarification came as authorities worked to identify the person involved in the pursuit and avoid confusion with another major investigation in the region. The sheriff’s department said the chase suspect was wanted in connection with the alleged theft from the storage facility, not the shooting case.
Charges still pending review
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said it will submit formal charges to the Miami County Attorney’s Office for review. The driver also faces additional charges in Missouri, though officials did not list them in the information released Monday. Authorities did not immediately provide the suspect’s name.
