One of the most memorable experiences in high school is Homecoming and all of the festivities around it. Here at Crystal Lake South we do an awesome job. We have decorations, food trucks, and school spirit days preparing students and getting the spirits up. But we all know that everyone’s favorite part is the Homecoming Dance: getting dressed up, making a sign for your date, receiving a sign from your date, dancing, and spending time with the people you care about on a Saturday night.
With so many cool things going on, it can be tough to get a good mental image and idea of what it’s all gonna look like. If you’re anything like me, you like to know the details of everything and come prepared. That’s why I took the time to interview the 3 people most involved in the Homecoming Dance, and asked them what they think it’s gonna be like this year.
I talked to Mr. Busam, Mrs. Niemiec, and student Lindsey Orzehoskie, all of whom are big deals in the student council!! They all shared important insight about what will be happening this year.
I asked what’s to be expected in general and I got these responses:
“A couple of food trucks, we have Kona Ice coming on Thursday, the Pep Rally, the football game, and then the dance on Saturday. So, traditional Homecoming activities I would say.” –Mrs. Niemiec
But I got to the important part– the dance!
“The theme of the dance in Hollywood Glam…Think movie themed, red carpet, gold stars, some fun props for the photo backdrop.” -Mrs. Niemiec
“We’ve tried to plan some more activities, tried to promote more of a theme, so as far as the difference between last year we didn’t have a theme last year, but we’re trying to up the decorations I would say.” -Mrs. Niemiec
“I expect a huge turnout this year…I think we have some really good food trucks coming this year. I think, you know, with students being able to pick the playlist for the DJ they’ll be excited about that. We’ve got the casino night back in the library and I think an important piece of the puzzle is we’re the only district Homecoming that night.” -Mr. Busam
“I think this year it’s gonna be very similar to last year, we’re gonna be in the courtyard next to the library…I think it’s gonna be good because everyone has high spirits for it…We’re gonnahave a little more decorations than last year, and like the hallways entering, and maybe in the library, but that should be the only thing that’s a little different” -Lindsey Orzehoskie
That sounds awesome… but how do we get in???
“There’s like a table by the door, and you can go buy your ticket or show them the online ticket, we’re gonna have a big tent in case in rains, and it’s gonna be, y’know, still in the courtyard, and we’ll decorate trees with like Christmas lights…and we’ll have some backdrops for people to take pictures with.” -Lindsey Orzehoskie
This year’s dance sounds like it’s gonna be great! Now that we know more, we can come more prepared and know what to expect. Something tells me this is gonna be a dance to remember!
